Can you please tell me if it is OK to use furthermore in the beginning of the sentence?

Furthermore, planning is not possible without clearly defined vision, mission and goals of biodiesel production.

The "furthermore" works, assuming prior context.

The mixing of singulars and plurals toward the end of the sentence seems a bit unnatural to me. (It's probably technically correct, but difficult to parse.)

Thank you for your comment. I don't see how I can avoid mixing singulars and plurals. Perhaps if I make two sentences out of this one...
