I think either one is OK in this sentence.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, since the Middle English period many writers have used "farther" and "further" interchangeably. However, there are cases where they are not interchangeable. "Further" can mean "additional" but "farther" cannot.

Then what is the difference between the following two sentences.

I don't think there is a difference.

Neither do I.
The difference between the two words is that further can be used both in abstract and physical sense, while farther can not. Farther is used only in physical sense.cErtain collocations are only corect with further, but it is not true with farther.

Actually, I think there is a subtle difference here.

"I don't want to walk any further" means "I'm done walking" or "I don't want to walk anymore." It's more abstract.

"I don't want to walk any farther" means "I will walk only a certain physical distance, and that's it."

That said, anyone who hears either of those sentences will certainly understand your intent, regard

In this case, since you are referring to physical distance, "farther" would be correct.
