I am in confusion with the term 'further education' and 'higher education'. Here are two examples of them but I still get lost:
Although she had left school and was working, she went to evening classes at the local College of Further Education.
After he left school, he decided to go on to higher education and applied for a place at Edinburgh University.
Please help me distinguish. Thanks in advance.

"further education" just means more or extra classes. It usually is in the context of job training or free Internet courses. It is not required to enroll in an institution to further your education.
