...further cut skilled migration

Hi all

Does this sound natural? Should words like 'quota' be mentioned?

'She says she doesn't mind we further cut skilled migration.'

Thank you

She doesn't mind if/that we cut etc. She doesn't object to our cutting etc. "Migration" is difficult to quantify, and without numbers, what do you cut?

Perhaps you need to distinguish between "immigration" and "migration." The latter is really just moving from place to place. Migrant workers follow the harvest. (How many people shall we allow to travel from California

The problem is still the same. In a free country you can't control migration. There's neither the means nor the intent / will.

In the US, I can only think of the infamous Mann Act (dating from the early 1900's), which makes it illegal to transport a woman across a state line for illicit purposes, whatever that means.

Anyway, I still think you're talking about "immigration."

Thanks for the follow-up, Avangi.

I finally got it. Apparently in Australia, 'immigrants' are commonly referred to as 'migrants'. Hence, 'skilled migration' really means 'skilled immigration'.

Thanks
