Although 'farther' and 'further' are becoming interchangeable, 'farther' is still preferred for physical distance. Your sentence itself makes little sense-- farther than what ?

Again, thank you.
Yesterday I saw a cat going off the road, which was further away from me.
While walking on the road, the cat saw a car heading towards it, so it suddenly went off the road which was a little distance away from me. I was walking on the pavement.

The comparative needs two things to compare-- in this case, two distances. But here, you only have one 'little distance'. Therefore, 'farther' does not work.
