Funny, fun

Hello, teachers!

Please help me with this sentence.
- Those were such funny/fun stories Tom told last night. He was like a totally different guy. / Yeah, really. He is normally so serious. What do you think brought all that out of him?

1. In this context, which is correct, funny or fun?
2. Would you explain the meaning of the sentence "What brought all that out of him?"?

Thank you very much.
Peace!
