Funky stuff

Hi
I'm not sure what this phrase "funky stuff" in the text below means. I guess it has something to do with sex, but I'm not sure.

"We were real soulmates, and we would discuss life and poetry, and sex and faith, and love and fear, and all the things that keep us here in the mysterious distance between a man and a woman. I remember I really wanted to talk to her. I think I had something on my mind. But we were friends, so there would be no, you know, funky stuff.

cheers

"Funky" is one of those words (like "cool" and "jive") which have been around a long time, often beginning as esoteric, but being picked up by different communities, where they acquire different shades of meaning. I'm not sure here if he intends to imply that their relationship was "Platonic," or that it avoided non-traditional practices. The "you know," lead-in suggests that he does not wish to be specific.

So, it's really not sure what he's trying to say.

I thought he was saying: ...we were friends, so I didn't want to, you know, make love with her. (this is how I understood "funky stuff")

you think I'm completely wrong?

I'm leaning toward agreeing with you. Especially in view of the "I think I had something on my mind" line. Would he say that in retrospect if they had in fact been sexually intimate, or could he be referring to one particular point (or period) in time?

OK, I think we're interpreting this line correctly.
