Function of universities

Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university to should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.
What in your opinion should be the main function of a university?

Knowledge and skills has always been the priority for individuals and everyone try to gain it by joining different institutes and universities. Many people think that they should be provided with some skills related to their discipline. But according to others the function of university is to deliver the knowledge, regardless of what the people think. According to my opinion, universities should provide the knowledge and some related skills to the students.

Every multinational company looks for the individuals with knowledge and experience and some related skills, because of that most of the universities offer internships in same field. If someone is doing course related to telecommunication, for example, so university arranges internship for the students in the company related to telecommunication. Moreover, if we look towards medical schools, along with theories they also provide some practical works in out patient department and theatres to familiarise the students. As to invent and discover new things, majority of the universities are running the research programs which provide the students extra knowledge and skills related to research work.

In conclusion, along with knowledge universities should also provide skills and workplaces. It is not only in the favour of students but also for employers. Now a days, universities are doing their best and as per myself, I am satisfied with it. They are doing lots of research work and this is what we need to make our future better.
