Function as V.S. Serve as

Hi everyone,

I have a problem telling the difference between the two phrasal verbs "function as" and "serve as". Is there any difference between the two? Aren't they all used to show that something is used as...

Would anyone please also help me correct my grammatical mistakes if there are any?

Thank you very much for your time
