Full stop - BrE

The sentence was 'I couldn't believe what happened'.

The old saying/adage/proverb is 'A stitch in time saves nine'.

His terse email said 'Be careful, and have a great summer'.

Do the full stops - in British English - go inside or outside the quote marks?

Thanks

I, a speaker if BrE, would put them outside. Other Brits may well put them inside.

Would you also place it outside the end quote for direct speech, as in: Luis said, 'You should be more tolerant'. <--outside?
