FULFILL THE OBLIGATION

Dear Teachers,

1. I have to do my best to fulfill the obligation of a adoptive father, so when the baby is born he will be very proud of me.

- Is this natural to say?

Thanks very much to Teachers,

Stevenukd.

Hi Stevenukd, The language is fine, and natural, but there's a problem with the logic. " I don't think you can legally adopt someone before they're born. The baby will have to grow up a bit before he can be proud of anyone.

  • " [ an adoptive father] People who read your sentence will understand what you mean, but you should do some thinking about the time line and decide what you really want to say.
  • Maybe if you simply change it to "so after the baby is born he will be very proud of me," it will be closer to what you intend.

Hi Stevenukd,

The language is fine, and natural, but there's a problem with the logic. It sounds like you expect him to come roaring out of his mother's womb and say, "Gee, thanks, Dad!"

I don't think you can legally adopt someone before they're born. The baby will have to grow up a bit before he can be proud of anyone.
