Fuel intensive process

Hi

In order to have feedlot agriculture, you have to grow all that corn to feed animals, which is a highly fuel intensive process.

I take it to mean that one has to use a lot of fuel to grow the corn? For example if you spray pesticides from a plane you use a lot of fuel to do this.
