Vocabulary

Fry, fingerlings, etc.

Hi,

I was wondering which of terms listed below are common enough in modern English.

- Newly hatched fish

- fry (either single or plural? )

- Fingerling (countable?)

- Young fish

- juvenile fish

Also, one of my dictionaries claims 'fry' normally applies only to salmon... In a nutshell, I am having big problems filtering correct English from the 'internet' fed English :-

Broadly speaking, people who live in cities rarely talk about this. I probably would say eg newly hatched fish, eg baby fish. Roe doesn't just refer to salmon.

They are not in general use. They seem to be examples of jargon.
