Front house ?

Hi guys,

I came across the word, "front house", regarding hotel business.
What does that mean?

front desk?
Any difference?

Thanks for your consideration.

I'm not sure what you are after, here. I know the term front to mean an appearance: The mom-and-pop grocery store is just a front for illegally imported drugs.

Hi,
In both hotels and theatres, I think 'the front of the house' refers to that area in which staff meet and deal with the public.

eg In a hotel, a receptionist or a bell-boy has a 'front of the house' job, but someone who washes dishes or does the laundry does not.

Have a look at these links.
