"from...to" vs "between...and"

Which one is correct? And which one sounds common and natural?

1. How far is it from Toronto to New York?

2. How far is it between Toronto and New York?

"from a to b" sound not encompassing "from b to a"


but "between a and b" and "between b and a" have no problem in interchangeability.
