My understanding of the term is that it means 'repairs on the go'. For example, a farmer is walking along his fence and he sees part of it broken down. He takes some baling wire from his pocket and fixes it. That's a makeshift repair. Or you're driving in your car and it breaks down. You open up the trunk and take out the tool kit and fix what is wrong right there, then off you go again -a makesh
