From that day on vs Since that day

Peter likes to play with fire. One day he was badly while playing with fire.

From that day on, he stopped playing with fire.
Since that day, he has stopped playing with fire.

Which of the above sentences is more suitable in saying that Peter stopped playing with fire after he was badly burned?

I believe that he stopped only on the day he was burned. So, I would use either beginning, but he has not played...
