the essay must include: likes, about family, what makes me who I am, and my dislikes. My name is Skylar Lorene Stokes. I was born June 5, 1997 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL. My mom is Jackie Stokes, my dad is Henry Stokes. I have one half brother named Jeffrey Stokes. I lived in Brewton until I was in the first grade. We built a house in Huxford where we currently live. For any of you who don’t know, I have been riding horses since I was two. The two stories I am about to tell you just make me who I am today. I once had a horse named Peanut, I was at my Aunt Donna’s and so were half of my family. My cousin, Chris was standing beside me on his horse, Buck. All of the sudden Chris takes off on his horse, my horse tagging along with me bouncing around. My head was banging against the saddle horn, everyone was yelling at me to let go and finally I did and fell right on off ole Peanut. I passed out and was rushed to the hospital during the drive my Aunt Sherry slapped me trying to wake me up, while my wonderful mother was hyperventilating in the backseat. I ended up staying in the hospital overnight with a concussion. My whole family was praying that this would be the only accident to happen to me, but sadly it was only the start. At age six I went to a barrel racing clinic with my Aunt Donna. I was sitting on a little helicopter landing pad with a girl my age that I had met that day. We were sharing boiled peanuts and living it up…till I lost my balance a little. The girl reached over to help me but instead accidentally pushed me off the post. I landed head first into sticks and rocks, which busted my head open. My aunt had seen what had happened from a distance and ran to me. She picked me up and took me to the bathroom and started wiping the blood off of me. People came running in wondering what had happened and said I needed to go to the hospital to get stitches. My Aunt Donna, being the awesome person she is made a deal with me, if I would stop crying- she wouldn’t make me get stitches. Most people my age probably would not continue to ride horses after those kinds of things happen, but they have been very good to me. I get to go places with my horses that I would never have the opportunity to go if I played a school sport. I have won as much as thirteen hundred dollars in one month. People don’t understand the time that I spend with my three horses and the dedication that it takes to do what I do, which really aggravates me. It also aggravates me when rich people go and buy very expensive stuff for their kids just because. I think you should have respect for your sport and you shouldn’t be able to buy your way into winning, you should have to work for it. After graduating high school, I plan to go to Faulkner Community College and major in nursing. While attending college I plan to keep on rodeoing professionally. I would like to become a registered nurse. I am still undecided about where I want to attend after Faulkner but I do know that horses will always be in my life.
