From abroad

Hello everyone,

I know "from" can be used with "abroad" as in "Most of these goods are imported from abroad", but I am not sure if the sentence below sounds natural.

- He wanted to befriend as many people from abroad as he possibly could.

"From other countries" sounds better to me, but "from abroad" might work too. What do you think?

Thank you.
