From a distance

Hello, teachers!

Would you please check this sentence for me?

- I saw/witnessed the murder from [a distance, far off, far away, afar], so I didn't see the murderer's face.

Thank you very much.
Peace!

This is a matter-of-fact, objective, observation, so I would suggest that only 'a distance' is appropriate. The others are possible, of course, although 'afar' is quite literary, so seldom heard in prosaic speech.
