Frightening/Bad thoughts

Hi

In my language, we have an expression whose literal translation would be something like 'bad thoughts' or 'frightening thoughts'.

People use this expression all the time. They have bad/frightening thoughts that they may lose a dear one. A mother may complain of an attack of bad thoughts that her son may be kidnapped on the way back from school. For a businessman, it could be something like losing a lot of money. I wonder how natives express the same feeling.

Are these natural?

A - I have constant attacks of bad/frightening thoughts these days.
B - What kind of thoughts?
A - I don't know. But I feel something terrible is soon going to happen.

and/or

A - Do you ever suffer from bad/frightening thoughts?
B- Yes, just like any other normal human being.

Any suitable English equivalents please?

Thanks,

Tom

Yes. In fact, part of the definition of anxiety is that it has no definite source in reality.
