"Fryer" is much more common, even for the chicken.

There's also "dryer" and "drier." This one is pretty clear cut: Y is the appliance, I is the condition.

Do you think the gas dryer gets the towels drier than the electric one?

As far as I know, there is no "driar," but we could start our own order.
