Friendship is the greatest gift amongst people and true friendship is to be cherished. This essay will discuss the qualities of a good friend and also state the reason that could damage a friendship.

When mentioning friendship, we all know that demonstrating empathy is paramount to friendship. Most people often lean on their friends and if we are unable to sympathize with others, the relationships will falter. Additionally, lasting friendships have losts of laughter, if you want to be friends with someone on a long-term, you should balance the ratio between fun and serious, or positive and negative. Moreover, real friends will always show up for their friends no matter what. In my opinion, if someone is not showing up when their friend need helps, they are just acquaintances. Real friends will always back their friends up in the good time or in the bad time.

Nevertheless, friendship is a vulnerable thing. The lack of response is a clear indicator regarding your commitment to the friendship. I have seen many friendships severed because the other person never responded. Another important factor is the busy schedule and change in priorities. They work hard so they lack the motivation to spend a few minutes with friends. Increase in social networking applications is probably another reason as more people spend time making new friends rather than retaining old ones.
