Friends With Money (2006)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436331/
Written and directed by Nicole Holofcener. With Jennifer Aniston, Joan Cusack, Catherine Keener and Frances McDormand.

Great ensemble cast, genuine dialogue. Nicole Holofcener displays her skill at deftly weaving several separate stories into a compelling and captivating narrative.
I know a lot of people don't like Jennifer Aniston for her work in 'Friends' and the genre, but I loved her in 'The Good Girl' and 'The Breakup'.
The movie had a major flaw that ruined the ending for me, though.

WTF was that deal with Jennifer Aniston's new boyfriend? The guy's supposed to be a soulmate: a likeable loser, unemployed, without focus or clear goals. But wait, there's a confession in the car when they return form the fund raiser: "I inherited a fortune. I don't work because I don't have to".
Who the hell came up with that stinking piece of plotting crap? Jennifer Aniston's character demonstrated strength of character and good judgement by going with someone she clicked with instead of the habitual good-looking jerks who cheat on her, and the screenwriter decided to reward her with a freaking glass slipper right out of 'Cinderella'?
What a cop out.

But think of the title. Olivia was always broke and unhappy. Yet her friends have money, and they're also miserable. I thought an ending where she finally does find

[nq:1]I mean, wasn't that the whole point of the movie, showing that money doesn't fix anything?[/nq]
I think it was more complex than that. It was more that money changes things and not always for the better. I mean, Aniston is a bit of a pot-head, and it seems when she finally hooks up with mr. might-be-right she's beginning to stablize. It's likely that she would have smoked away anything s

I thought her reward would be renouncing all the things her friends pursued that did not bring them happiness.

I'm trying to see whether there's anything deeper to it. M

That must account for the show's high ratings and her constant salary increases. Horrible writing and her atrocious performances! Most people, who lived in the big city and had friends as roomates, can and do relate to similiar situations. You're obviously the minority opinion, again.
