Friend of His/Him?

Let's say I am talking about a guy named Peter.

1. "I am a friend of Peter."

2. "I am a friend of Peter's."

3. "I am a friend of him."

4. "I am a friend of his."

It seems that I have heard all four versions. How are they different?
