Frequency adverbs

I'm totally confused with the position of Frequency Adverbs .Could anyone please explain me?

1. Why we shouldn't use frequency adverbs after subject?

I often late. what does this mean? Is this a wrong sentence?

2. Why we should use frequency adverbs after to be?

Which one should I follow?Should we use frequency adverbs only with TO BE?

  • Frequency adverbs (e.g. often, always, never, sometimes, generally, seldom, rarely, ever, frequently etc.) usually go in the following positions:
  • Before the main verb. I often go there to do my shopping.
  • After the verb be. I'm often late.
  • Between the auxiliary verb and the principal verb.
