Freeze in position

tableaux = An interlude during a scene when all the performers on stage freeze in position and then resume action as before.

Could you please explain to me what "freeze in position" here?

I know "freeze" means "to stop" but I can't understand in position here.

For a side note : I don't want the meaning of "tableaux", but I'm just curious to know what "freeze in position" here.
