Is '1' correct and correctly punctuated?

The sentence clearly means:
2) The former Blackburn forward was left on the bench by his national team boss Zlatko Dalic for the fourth successive game, which was against Nigeria.

In '1', 'against Nigeria' modifies 'the fourth successive game' in a non-defining way. The comma is supposed to make that clear.

I always have problems with this kind of sentence.

Gratefully,
Navi

Is '1' correct and correctly punctuated? Yes. You could enclose Zlatko Dalic in commas, but the trend these days is to avoid using a lot of commas if possible.
