Hello, I have another problem with birds in a song. On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds. What exactly are these? Are they simply any birds who are calling (making sounds to invite prospective spouses), or is there a species or genus of birds known by that name?
Thanks in advance, Leszek.
Top answer
OK, I found it. Originally, the song mentioned colly birds, "birds black as coal", a species nowadays known as the blackbirds. Cheers, L.
