Foundation(s)

1. Is this sentence correct:

"The course gave me a good FOUNDATION of the English langugae."

2. And can 'foundation' be used in plural, in the same context as above?

For instance:

"A language school can just offer you the FOUNDATIONS of a language."

Top answer

" The usual pattern in this sense is "give/offer etc. a foundation in ~". The plural in the second version seems unusual, and may appear incorrect.
