Pygmy goat reunited with owner Thursday
BENNET, Neb. —A 4-month-old pygmy goat found near Bennet was reunited with her owner Thursday night.
"I had her for three days and somebody came in here and snatched her," Cassidy Cox said.
Cox used $100 of saved babysitting money to buy Pepper the pygmy goat as a companion for her other goat Annibell.
"So I got a pygmy goat, because they stay fairly small," Cox said.
While the family was gone Tuesday evening, Pepper vanished. There weren't holes in the fencing and the goat is too small to leap out.
"(She's) maybe a foot tall," Cox said. "She is super tiny."
A neighbor reported a dark truck pulling into Cox's driveway that evening. He heard doors opening and shutting, then saw the truck speed off.
"(It was) pretty upsetting," Cox said. "I just hope to get her back."
After a photo appeared on news organizations' websites, a stranger pulled into Cox's driveway.
"His kids found it in their yard," Cox said.
Cox followed the man to his home about 2 miles away and found Pepper.
"She seems a little dehydrated and she was really hungry, so I fed her," Cox said. "And got her a bunch of clean water. She seems to be fine now that she's home."
Cox is skeptical that Pepper could have wandered that far on her own or even survive with all of the coyotes in the area.
"I think someone might have noticed that there was a lot of publicity about it and maybe dropped her off near there," Cox said. "I'm just glad she's home and she's not hurt or anything."
