Can you please tell me which word would be more adequate in the context:

This approach certainly does not contribute to building the trust and fostering/cherishing long-term relationships.

Definitely 'fostering' as a synonym to 'encouraging the development of'. You would not 'cherish long-term relationship' but you might 'cherish THE IDEA of a long-term relationship' which would then sound like you have nostalgia of past long-term relationships and I don't think this is what you want to express here.
