Top answer

Hi, In my opinion, I think that, an orphanage is a home for children whose parents are dead, and a foster home is a home where children can be taken care of, whether their parents are alive or dead. It's just my opinion By the way, do you know that there's a user whose name is foster home here? And there's a cartoon whose name is Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends on the Cartoon Network channel I know they're not concerned, but that sounds interesting.

Dear hrsanei
I found this in one of my books.
Foster home: a private home where a child is fostered.
Orphanage: a large house where children who are orphans live and are taken care of.

This is what I get: A foster home is private but an orphanage can be public.

This is also my understanding of it. In the U.S. orphanages were big institutions that existed long ago. Now children are placed in private homes (foster homes) instead, as it was found to be better for the children to grow up within a family rather than with hundreds of other children in a big pu

Rover_KEThe same goes for the UK, too.
Except we say it differently! When I say 'foster homes' with my American accent in London, they think I'm saying 'faster homes'! A young man there told me he thought cricket was faster than baseball, and I could not understand why he was saying 'foster'!
