For/To

I've just finished writing a dissertation, and being a non-native speaker I was wondering which of the following would be correct?

  • the meaning of television for an aging audience
  • the meaning of television to an aging audience

I'm not sure if it's relevant in answering this question, but the term "meaning" is basically used to refer to all relevant aspects of television watching in the daily routines of older viewers, as well as to refer to how television shows and content are related to personal preferences and their identity and self-concept.

Thanks in advance
