Formal numbers

Should "12 months" always be written as "twelve months"? Are there any exceptions?

Top answer

Whether to write out number or use numerals is a matter of style. A common style is to spell out the numbers from zero to ten, and use numerals after that, so it would be 12 months. Another common style is not use the numerals as the first "word" in a sentence -- in that case, spell it out.
