Formal letter

Dear teacher, I would like to know your opinion about this letter. Thank you so much in advance.

---------------------------------------------------------

Dear Dr. Eric Gill,

I would like to express my interest in the PhD position in "Vibration- Assisted Control of Friction Forces" in Department of Engineering Structures at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Delft University of Technology.

I am particularly eager to contribute to this project because it perfectly aligns with my plans to continue my education and pursue a career in the area of control of friction force with applied oscillatory force. In particular, my research would be developing new methods which make possible to minimize wear and energy to overcome friction processes and will be explore how applied oscillatory forces may alter friction forces for different types of contact configurations, from micro to macro scalel.

I was admitted to the +++ University, [sity] branch for my MSc, in Applied Mathematics- Numerical Analysis. I have done my Master's project in physics. I studied two electromechanical systems, spring- mass electromechanical system and piezoelectric energy harvester. My master's thesis under the supervision of Dr. Rab, was on"Using mathematical techniques for solving Fokker-Planck equations", which is a parabolic partial differential equation appearing in the piezoelectric energy harvester with one degree of freedom. While doing my mester project, I gave a deeper knowledge of simple harmonic oscillator, Simple harmonic motion, Damped harmonic oscillator, Driven harmonic oscillators and friction force in simple harmonic ascillator and aroused my interest in it.
Furthermore, I have always been interested in interdisciplinary activities and researching solutions to real-world problems and problems in physics and engineering by using mathematical algorithms be appeals to me.

I now wish to advance my academic career at a top international university and I cannot imagine a better be place to study than the Delft University of Technology and in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. In addition, this doctoral position allows me to work with a young and enthusiastic group whose members are internationally recognized in their respective fields. In my opinion, it is the ideal place to do interdisciplinary.

Considering the content of the master's thesis, combined with knowledge I have stocked from my previous studies in Mathematics, I am confident that I can do the research project successfully. I recognise the importance of studying this field. I believe that these skills and experience will allow me to effectively complete a larger-scale project such as a PhD.

After completing the PhD, I intend to pursue a postdoc in vibration assisted method for reducing the friction forces. With a lifelong interest in friction damping of mechanical vibration, I am keen to continue my education in this area and to perform my own research in order to help extend the knowledge in this field. Thank you so much for considering my application.

Yours sincerely,

Mina Mi
