Formal, informal, sarcastic?

When someone says "I'm well, thanks for asking" as an answer to "How are you?", is that considered formal? If those people are acquaintances or friends, is it sarcastic?

Top answer

Hi. You don't thank your friends for asking how you are, so it would be used in formal context. As for being sarcastic, it highly depends on the context.
