Can you please suggest variations on the opening phrase:

Dear so and so,

I am writing to inform you that


What I'm basically looking for are formal ways to simply state: I'm writing to tell you that!

yes, I guess this is an option! But for some reason I always feel that I have to write something cordial at the begging, even when I know that it makes for a more long-winded and hence worst writing.

yeah, I mean "I'm writing to inform you you that" is not necessarily overly friendly! But I need that sort of crutch that introduces the body of the email in a polite manner. You get the idea!
