Formal Assessment Letter

Well I have an english paper due and I am supposed to write a formal assessment letter along with it. In this letter I am supposed to say what I think of my writing and what I would continue to expand on if given more time to do so. This is about all we were told and I am unsure if my professor wants it in a formal letter format or what. Any ideas?
