Fork out Or fork up

Hi
I always thought "Fork out" is a verb to say "Shell out" or "paying a lot of dough" for an item , util yesterday when I read at the news an article in which, I found this phrasal verb "Fork up" as a way of saying "fork out".
Is that correct to say fork up? By the way the authors were not native English speakers.

"Fork up" as a way of saying "fork out" They both mean about the same. If you've ever pitched hay or handled a dung fork, you must realize that you can "fork" in more than one direction. Both are idiomatic as used to describe handing over money.
