There is a word which I used to know but which I have forgotten – not an uncommon occurrence I’m afraid. The word describes the faint trace or outline of a roof, left on the side of a building after an adjoining, connected building has been demolished. The same word also describes the faint outline of writing left on a wax tablet after it has been scraped clean, ready for fresh use. I think the word began with the letter ‘P’ but I could be wrong.
If anyone could help with the above, I should be very grateful.
Regards,
Chris Whiteley
The only word I can think of beginning with a P that means anything like that is 'palimpsest', though I've never heard it in the meaning you refer to in your "roof outline" example. CJ
