I had to either lock the main door or turn on the alarmor do both of those things. I forgot to do both.
Which of the following sentences can I use in such a context: 1) I both forgot to lock the main door and to turn on the alarm. 2) I forgot to lock the main door and to turn on the alarm. 3) I forgot to lock the main door or to turn on the alarm. 4) I forgot to lock the main door and I also forgot to turn on the alarm.
I don't think '3' works and '2' seems to imply that I had to do both things.
Gratefully, Navi.
