Forgot password v forget password ?

Dear Teachers,
I'm confused with this simple question. When there's login popup, it shows 'forgot password' underneath username and password. Why not 'forget password' ? we still don't know yet the password temporarily, do we ?

Thanks in advance

It's probably just a shorthand-type form of 'have you forgotten your password'.

Hi

I think it may be to do with the fact that 'to forget' can be used as a stative verb or not, depending on the context. You can use 'forget' to describe your mind over a period of time or you can use it to describe a single event ...

- What is the capital of Hungary?
- I knew that once, but I've long since forgotten it
[= For some time I've been in the state of not kno
