What about:

I knew today is Monday but I just forgot.

That sounds weird. After certain verb forms, like knew and thought, only the past sounds right to a native speaker's ears.

Yeh, I knew today is Monday sounds like what a palm reader would say...

Are there any other verb forms that should be accompanied with a past tenses?

I don't know. I don't think there is a list anywhere. Synonyms of thought, for example, believed, probably all fall into this category.
