It would be grateful if you could correct my essay. Thanks in advance.
Some students do not have the natural ability for another language. Some people think that schools should not force students to learn foreign language. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is widely true that taking up a new language might be difficult to for many students. While students should not be obliged to learn another language, I firmly believe that they can reap benefits from speaking foreign languages.
There is no doubt that it would be too strict to force students to study other languages. The first reason is that it may go against a free society to force a group of people to do something against their will. Learning another language requires not only innate talent of each student but also a sheer perserverance and determination. Trying to force students to learn foreign languages may result in resentment among them and have counterproductive effects on their learning. Admittedly, students may lose their interest in learning languages and feel stressed out in classes. As a result, it is more difficult for students to take up a new language to the fullest. For example, my brother does not have the natural ability for foreign languages. He always lacks interest in learning whenever he has to attend English classes.
However, there are several reasons that explain why students should study foreign language. First, students can have a chance to broaden their horizons from learning other languages. Exposure to a new language helps students embrace new cultures and have access to foreign materials to gain an insight into various fields such as science, economy and technology. Second, it is of paramount importance to be a bilingual person in the age of globalization. If students study foreign languages, they are able to communicate with foreigners and build up new relationships from outside world. In addition, students easily assimilate into the global community and have a better learning opportunities in other countries.
In conclusion, although some may claim that students should be given freedom to learn foreign language or not, I strongly believe that students should be encouraged to gain benefits of speaking other languages.
