For what point does this author use “at least not their own”?

The following passage is from the website as follows:

http://www.epubbud.com/read.php?g=H8AVF5J5&tocp=7

At least this is true of the Jarawa tribe on Great Andaman. The North Sentinelese, on the nearby island of North Sentinel, have not volunteered to give blood – at least not their own. As the only hunter-gatherers who still resist ‘contact’, these fine-looking people – strong, slim, fit and stark naked except for a small plant-fibre belt round the waist – usually greet visitors with showers of arrows. Good luck to them.

I’m not sure what’s the point of this underlined phrase, ‘at least not their own.

At least not their own’ seems to mean ‘At least not their own (blood).’ But for what purpose? I don’t think there is any inevitable reason for the need of this phrase in this passage.

This dilemma put me into this wild guessing that they refused to give their own blood, but they help researchers get blood from others. (I know this is just ridiculous guessing, but I want you to know how much this phrase boggles me^^;)

Please, help me!

The phrase is a little joke.
The idea is this. They will not give their own blood. Instead, they will attack visitors and cause these visitors to bleed.
