for vs of

Another question guys - sorry lol. I have the following sentences:
Whether one talks of sexuality in bacteria(,) it depends on the definition of sexuality used. If sexuality implies separate sexes and if (the) exchange of genetic material is a prerequisite of sexual reproduction, then bacteria could hardly fall in the group of sexually reproducing organisms.

My questions:
(1) do I need (,) and (the). I think I do and would like to keep them...
(2) as far as the "of" in bold and italics... I'd prefer to switch them with "for" in both cases. I suppose in the second instance it depends on which word goes best with prerequisite, in which case I've seen instances that either of or for is used. I prefer for. Any thoughts?

Lol indeed! I should ask do you know if this board is open or closed (ie can search engines search the topic)? If the boards are searchable, is there anyway to delete/edit a topic (possible copyright issues, etc.)? I can't find that option...even as the topic starter...

Oops...forgot
as far as "prerequisite" goes...it would always be prerequisite of, never prerequisite for? I seen prerequisite for used just about as often as prerequisite of....
