Hello,1. The kept the horse for their own.This sentence is correct. It sholuld be like "for themselves". But Somewhere I read the usage of  "their own/his own". I am not able recall it. Any one, please,  can help  me out.Thanks.

This sentence is correct. It sholuld be like "for themselves". But Somewhere I read the usage of "their own/his own". I am not able recall it.

Some comments from Swan's Practical English Usage:

'Own' is only used after a possessive word, eg my own pen, its own government, my sister's own child.

'Own' can be used without a following noun, eg: I don't need your pen, I have my own.

And there's the structure: a *** of *** own, eg a house of my own.

Here I am very week in grammer but i suggess u the sentence should like this

They kept the horsre for their own use
They keep horse for themselves

for themselves
