Hi. Please help. Which is correct?

1. The prices have been going up and down over the past four years.

2. The prices have been going up and down for the past four years.

3. The prices have been going up and down in the past four years.

1 should be "...prices have gone up and down..." and 3 can't easily be corrected.

3. The prices were stable in the past four years.

All are perfectly correct. The use of present perfect continuous is fine here, as your time frame is the last four years up to the present. No problems. Sometimes there are many ways to say the same thing.
