for storing/to store

A food container is used [for storing/to store] food.

On the Web, 'for storing' is more commonly used compared to 'to store'. I think the usage is context dependent where in some contexts one is prefered to the other. So, could you please point ou5 which contexts prefer one to the other?

Thanks!
